Los Alamos Arts Council Unveils Upcoming Events

LAAC News:

The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) unveils upcoming events. Kite Festival is drawing closer, afterschool art is thriving, and soon the gallery will have more weekend hours.

Here’s a snapshot of what the Arts Council has coming up:

  • Volunteer Get Together Friday, March 13: To prepare for the year of cultural programming, the Arts Council invites the community to the first volunteer get together! Learn about how to help sustain arts and culture programming in the community even beyond helping with Kite Festival and Pumpkin Glow. From 10 a.m. to noon, drop-in at the Fuller Lodge Art Center, 2132 Central Ave. Tea and snacks will be provided. For more info, reach out to Info@LAAC-FLAC.org

  • After school art studios five days a week: After School Art Studios are a fun, low-pressure way to get kids’ creative energy flowing. Supported by a grant from the Los Alamos Community Foundation and Anchorum Community Health, these studios let kids and teens explore their own interests with guidance from Studio Coordinator Hannah R. In March and moving forward, studios will be offered Monday-Friday. No studios are being offered March 23-April 3, though the hope is to have more availability these days soon. Students can bring their own projects, use the Arts Council’s supplies, or show up with an idea and get support from staff and peers. ‘Punch cards’ (available in sets of three, six, or 10) are being offered for ease of signing up. • Adult art education continues: the Arts Council continues to offer art classes and studio space for adults, featuring classes on sewing, ceramics (both wheel and ceramic tiles,) figure painting, and book binding. For more information and to sign up, check out: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/adulteducation.

  • Daytime Performance Series: As part of the Daytime Performance Series, the Los Alamos Arts Council is sponsoring a guest lecture (with some concert elements) noon to 1 p.m. March 11 at Fuller Lodge. Come down and learn about Mozart!

  • Preorder a Kite Festival Shirt: Every year LAAC gives away hundreds of T-shirts to local youth who build and fly kites at Overlook Park. This year, the Arts Council won’t be able to order as many shirts as it has in the past. The Arts Council will still have more than 100 free shirts on site, but to guarantee every child gets a shirt in their size, pre-orders are being offered to help offset material and labor costs this year. To find out more and preorder before March 5, check out: https://www.losalamosartscouncil.org/kite-festival-26.

  • Just want to meet fellow artists? From 4-5 p.m. the first and third Sunday of every month, come on down to Bathtub Row Brewing Coop for the community favorite Crafts & Drafts. Bring art supplies or utilize what the Arts Council has available. Please, no paints, glues or messy crafts. The goal is to hang out, spend some time together on shared hobbies, and not leave a big mess for the Tub crew. Free and open to the public (older than )
