2025 Scarecrow Contest
Annual Scare Contest is ALIVE!! Visit downtown Los Alamos and see all of the spooky, goopy, silly, and scary creations our local friends and neighbors have created to liven up Main Street. A special thanks to Los Alamos MainStreet to sponsoring this event and to all the prize donors for 2025!

Pumpkin Glow
Every year, thousands of people gaze in wide wonder at glowing visions of scary creatures, funny faces, cute animals, and fancy flowers. We encourage people of all ages and artistic talent to participate because anyone can carve a pumpkin! The annual Pumpkin Glow is held the Saturday before Halloween in conjunction with other Trick-or-Treat on Main Street events. More info here.

November Brunch and Tea Tasting at Samizdat Bookstore
Join us for this limited seating event at Samizdat Bookstore. Everyone loves a brunch from our local favorite bookstore and this one is for another great cause with the Los Alamos Arts Council!
Five courses, made fresh and paired with tea and tea infused drinks (non-alcoholic).
The menus for this event will be from two brand new cookbooks. Once Jill has the menu finalized we'll share it here. The menu will be vegetarian (although eggs will be used in some recipes, so they will not be vegan).
Limited seating so grab a seat early! Add a box of cupcakes as an add-on, these will only be available pre-sale so don't miss the chance for some extra snacks to take home!

Daytime Performance Series: Tomás Lozano & Rima Montoya
Tomas Lorenzo is a singer, musician, composer, scholar and writer, born in Barcelona, Spain to Andalusian parents. Known for his eclectic musicianship, Lozano’s performance of Spain’s traditional ballads stand out as iconic. Lozano has become well-known for his musical compositions set to legendary poets. He performs his original compositions, solo or accompanied, masterfully expressed through his smooth voice, the vibrant finger work on his guitar and the soothing droning of his hurdy-gurdy.
Rima Montoya holds a Master of Science from UNM. Her love of language led her to explore communication and words that express the more essential nature of life. That is why she naturally took to translating poetry. Her joy for this sort of work makes sharing it through recitation a life fulfilling experience.

Affordable Arts Pop Up: Baked by Olivia
Join us in the Fuller Lodge Art Center gallery during Affordable Arts to grab a yummy baked good from talented local baker and artist "Baked by Olivia"! You may have picked up a pie or pastry from her at our craft fair.
Her pop up will be available to the public from 4-5, then limited to members-only during our Affordable Arts Members-Only shopping event from 5-6.

Daytime Performance Series: Los Alamos Flute Choir
The Los Alamos Flute Choir is made up of members entirely from the Los Alamos and White Rock area. They range from professional musicians, to scientists, to volunteers and mothers. Join us for an enchanting performance of these talented musicians! FREE to the public.

Storytelling Workshop with Yvonne Montoya
Los Alamos, come share your stories from home! In this workshop led by Safos Dance Theatre's by Artistic Director Yvonne Montoya and company dancers, participants will pair up in groups of 2-3 and follow prompts to share fun and interesting stories about themselves and their homes. The workshop will include select performances of monologues and dances from Stories from Home, including an excerpt of the dance Pajarito. Workshop is open to participants of all ages. Free to the public.

45th Annual Fall Craft Fair

Los Alamos Arts Council Presents: SAFOS Dance Theater "Stories From Home"
Join us in welcoming the acclaimed Dance Theater from Tucson, Arizona as they present “Stories from Home” at the Duane Smith Auditorium. Tickets available online starting July 1st, 2025. You can learn more about the program here.

Los Alamos Arts Council Presents: Jessica Klagmann Author Signing
Join us as we host local author Jessica Klagmann and Santa Fe author Katie Arnold as they do a discussion panel on their works, including Jessica’s newest release, North of the Sunlit River. There will be a cash bar by Bathtub Row Brewing Cooperative, snacks, and a lively time with these two fantastic literary artists!
The author’s books will be available for sell at Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse prior to the event so don’t forget to snag your copy before the event.

Caldera Reverie: A Gallery Opening Reception at Fuller Lodge Art Center
Join us for our final exhibit of 2025 on September 5th at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. Featuring the works of the artists of the Valles Caldera Artist in Residence program, this will be our last exhibit before Affordable Arts starts in November.
These artists will be displaying a variety of works inspired by their time in the Valles Caldera as well as works from their portfolios.

Make a T-Shirt Skirt
Get ready to bring your creativity to life—one stitch at a time! In this hands-on sewing class, students will learn basic hand-sewing techniques as they design and create their very own stuffed animal. From choosing fabric and cutting patterns to stitching, stuffing, and adding personal touches, each student will leave with a one-of-a-kind plush creation.
No prior sewing experience is needed—just imagination and a willingness to learn! Along the way, students will develop fine motor skills, patience, and confidence in crafting something uniquely their own.
All materials are provided, however if you have a t-shirt that you want to turn into a skirt, bring it. We will have some basic thrift finds for any who do not bring their own t-shirts.

July Daytime Performance at Fuller Lodge
We will be hosting a Shakespeare in the park event featuring the Los Alamos Little Theatre for our summer campers and their families on a Friday in July! This will be an outdoor performance during the heat of the day, we recommend bringing a blanket and chair.

Missoula Children's Theater: Auditions Only
Auditions for this year’s Missoula Children’s Theater are being held at Crossroads Bible Church on Monday July 14th, with the performance the following Saturday, July 19th. For more information on the auditions, as well as the week long rehearsal schedule and performance times, please visit HERE.

Summer Camp/LARSO Lunch Day Out
Summer Camp students, families, staffers and our LARSO neighbors are going to meet at the Betty Ehart Senior Center for lunch. This program is part of LAAC’s summer camp and families will recieve an email on how to sign up to join us. Students meals will be covered as part of our camps!

Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of our board of directors will be held on June 29th at the Fuller Lodge Art Center in the Yellow Studio. This studio is accessed using the central avenue exterior door at the top of the stairs. The Meeting will begin with reports from staff on the end of Fiscal Year 2025 and a brief plan outlining Fiscal Year 2026. The board will then enter into a closed session to discuss performance reviews for staff and board members. Please join us and hear about the wonderful upcoming arts and cultural programs we have in store.

Our monthly showings of National Theater Live continue in June with “A Streetcar Named Desire”.

Los Alamos Arts Council at Chamberfest 2025
We will be at the annual Los Alamos Chamberfest in Central Park Square Saturday June 7th. If you are curious about what we do, would like to become a member, sign up for programs and more, stop by! Our staff will also be hosting last year’s favorite activity: Paint Your Own Canvas! We have mini canvases for kids and pets, and adults can add to our community canvas. All supplies provided.

Daytime Performance Series: Yoshiko Arahata, D.M.A.
Join us for a performance by New Mexican pianist Yoshiko Arahata, D.M.A. !
Join us for an afternoon of rich and colorful solo piano music, featuring gems from the classical repertoire by composers such as Joseph Haydn and Alexander Scriabin, all the way to vibrant modern, jazz, and tango works by living composers Henry Martin, Pablo Ziegler, and more. Performed by pianist Yoshiko Arahata, a Yamaha Artist, the program also highlights her ongoing research on Latin American Piano Literature Beyond the Canon.
Arahata is Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University, where she is developing a brand-new Collaborative Piano curriculum. A versatile soloist, collaborative and chamber musician, and composer, she was named a fellow of the prestigious Gilmore International Piano Festival. Her performances and compositions have been featured across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Latin America—including appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Preston Bradley Hall, and on multiple radio broadcasts.
This performance will be free and open to the public in Fuller Lodge. We hope to see you there!

Kite Festival 2025 starts with our annual volunteer and member appreciation dinner at Fuller Lodge Art Center. Join us Saturday and Sunday from 10AM-4PM at Overlook Park for Kites galore! Presented with generous funding from Enterprise Bank and our local sponsors, this annual festival delights all ages.

Art&Nature Exhibit Opening
The Los Alamos Arts Council presents an eco-friendly exhibit in honor of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC)’s 25th Anniversary, showcasing the inseparable bond between art and nature. Open to New Mexico-based artists, the exhibition welcomes works in any medium that explore nature and our place within it—ranging from eco-optimism and pessimism to landscape photography.
